graduated with high honors in 1961 from the
University of Memphis, where he served as vice
president then president
of the student body. He earned his law degree at

scholarship. During his tenure there, he was a member
of Tau Kappa Alpha and a member of the Moot Court
Board, case editor and moot court finalist. His
